Bringing a brand to life through story and design

Project Overview

Seven was tasked with building Jack and Gelato from the ground up, with only a name and a two-week timeline. The goal was to create a brand that stood out in Sri Lanka’s frozen dairy market, resonated across age groups, and translated the client’s vision into a tangible, emotionally engaging experience.

Strategic Approach

Our strategy centered on storytelling as the brand’s differentiator. The idea was to personify the brand through Jack, a polar bear whose journey up the hill to discover new gelato flavors became the narrative thread across all brand touchpoints. This approach allowed us to create a consistent, memorable story that connected the product offering to an emotional experience, engaging both children and adults.

By tying every brand element to this story, we established a clear personality: playful, nostalgic, and adventurous. Jack’s journey became both a symbol of exploration and a framework for communicating the brand’s unique identity.

Brand Identity

The visual identity was built to support the story-driven strategy. We designed the mascot, logo, color palette, typography, and visual elements to reflect the brand’s playful and approachable character. Cooler tones, subdued moods, and clean design differentiated Jack and Gelato from the vibrant, conventional frozen dairy brands, while reinforcing the narrative of Jack’s journey.

Launch & Activation

Within two weeks, Jack and Gelato launched at a carnival pop-up, introducing the story-driven brand to the public. The playful narrative and visual identity resonated with both children and adults.

The first flagship outlet followed in Negombo, designed to reflect Jack’s journey and the brand’s storybook-inspired world. It quickly became a standout destination, with the immersive storytelling creating a strong emotional connection and laying the foundation for expansion.

Outcome

Jack and Gelato transformed from a concept into a fully realized, differentiated brand, blending design, narrative, and strategy.

The project also highlighted Seven’s culture of empowering emerging talent, with younger creatives leading the development process from concept to launch delivering work that is both innovative and meaningful.
