The platform just hit a new height in terms of number of users as it reached the historic 2 Billion mark this past week. This leaves WhatsApp hot on the heels of the 2.5 Billion users parent company Facebook possesses and well ahead of the number of users on Instagram which is at around 1 Billion.
WhatsApp has gone from strength to strength over the past decade, making it one of the most universally loved platforms. A key contributor to its popularity has been its security with the importance the platform places on encrypting users’ messages despite relentless pressure from lawmakers.
Speaking about the encryption and security, WhatsApp CEO, Will Cathcart had this to say: “For all of human history, people have been able to communicate privately with each other, and we don’t think that should go away in a modern society.”
